HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT TODAY:
The village of Quebrada de Agua, Guatemala is located in the mountains in the State of Zacapa. They are one of the few rural areas that is still without electricity. Villages just 15 minutes down the road from them have had electricity for quite some time. But why not Quebrada de Agua? The government sees value in those in the other villages that produce coffee. Quebrada de Agua is located at an elevation where they're not able to grow coffee. Therefore, they have been low on the priority list.
We found out recently that the government is bringing electricity to Quebrada da Agua! One might think that they will provide it to each of the 130 families in 90 homes. In reality, they will bring it to the edge of the village. From there it is their responsibility to provide materials to bring electricity to their homes. The total investment is $3600.
Most families make less than $40usd PER YEAR because there is no work. Shoes & Hope and Guatemala Outreach are proud to support helping the families make this happen.
For only $40 per family, we will be able to provide the following: (4) Socket Lights; (4) Light Switches; (4) Outlets; (4) Light Bulb;, (1) Breaker, 20 Amps; (1) Breaker Box; and Electrical Tape
The final requirement will be the wiring and we do not have a number on this as of yet since each home is a different distance from the source of the power. It will need to be calculated based on the number of meters. At this point, we are just working on this first phase.
